Living in the 21st century is so different to when I was a teenager in the 1980s. One example is that the power of music hasn't changed but the access to music is fundamentally different. In recent years I've became a real fan of Louis Armstrong, a genuine favourite of my parents. My parents had a couple of his albums which are long lost with time, so I use youtube to access old recordings.
Living in the 21st century means that I can watch these playlists on my phone from almost anywhere. It also allows anyone to manipulate and create new expressions such as seen in the images that have been collated in this example above.
So, what are some emergent thoughts about education in the 21st century that can be taken from this?

So, what are some emergent thoughts about education in the 21st century that can be taken from this?
- Ease of access to knowledge in many forms. The abundance of information and ease of access is growing phenomenally. So the need to retain abundant pieces of random information is no longer a requirement. Knowing how to use and how to discern is much more important. With this abundance and ubiquity of information I'm reminded of what the futurist and philosopher Alvin Toffler once wrote: "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn."
- The ability to contribute to the creation of new knowledge or new expressions of knowledge is easy. It wasn't even a thought in my time as a teenager. Right now teenagers are able to create and disseminate new knowledge. So how do we as a community need to think and act differently to allow our young people the opportunity to actively participate in the creating of new knowledge or expressions of new new knowledge?
