Kia ora.

I’ve recently read Mindset: How you can fulfill your potential. A book written by Dr Carol S. Dweck, a book written from a long period of time researching and experimenting.

I recall the first chapter and being fascinated by a quote from Alfred Binet, the father of the IQ test.
A few modern philosophers … assert that an individual’s intelligence is a fixed quantity, a quantity which cannot be increased. We must protest and react against this brutal pessimism … With practice, training, and above all, method, we manage to increase our attention, our memory, our judgement and literally to become more intelligent than we were before.
Binet designed the test to identify students in Paris who were not doing well, in the public education system, with the intention of designing new educational programmes to get them back on track.

I wonder what he would say about how we’ve used it over the past 50 years!

Anyhow, here is a video about A Study on Praise and Mindsets conducted by Dweck.
